Kayla Wood

Kayla (pronouns: she/her) serves as a project manager at Asibey Consulting, bringing a wealth of experience as a multimedia journalist and content creator with a strong background in social media. Entering into the non-profit sector in 2018, her work has centered around critical issues such as housing, education, recidivism, and racial justice.

With a heart for writing, Kayla's professional portfolio mirrors her deep passion for storytelling. Whether through journalism, digital communications (including annual reports, blog posts, and press releases), or digital content creation via social media. All of her work is a testament to her commitment to supporting her community by telling their stories.

Kayla's diverse professional journey has tackled both regional and global topics. Recently, her focus has been on youth organizing, as she serves as a digital content creator at the Schott Foundation. She also teaches grassroots organizations across the United States about social media, and leverages their work to larger audiences.

As a multimedia journalist, Kayla has been published in KQED, the Portland Monthly, and Oaklandside and more. Kayla earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications with a minor in creative writing from the University of Oregon. She further holds a master's degree in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, where she covered topics such as Oakland school closures, housing, and music.

Kayla's commitment to storytelling is reflected by her involvement with the San Quentin Newsroom during her time at UC Berkeley—a publication created by and for individuals currently incarcerated. Intrigued by the intersection of technology and storytelling, she explores avenues like augmented reality to push the evolution of journalism.

Today, Kayla utilizes her digital communication skills to support the nonprofit sector. In her free time, she’s working on an arts and culture magazine with a team based in Vallejo, CA, known as Good Compenny.
