Cynthia Olson

 
 

Over the past twenty years Cynthia Olson has developed expertise in strategic communications working with leading nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. She has expertise in strategy, message development, executive communications, digital engagement, and multi-collaborator project management. In all of her work, Cynthia applies an ethical storytelling lens that honors the stories of those served by social change organizations. 

Cynthia has worked on a range of issues including girls’ education, reproductive health and rights, gender equity, access to education, and narrative change around race and poverty.  She has advised non-profit and education institutions on communications strategies, including the Harlem Children’s Zone, the Mailman School of Public Health, and the Parkinson’s Foundation, among others, and is a long-time collaborator with Asibey Consulting.    

As Managing Director of Communications for iMentor, Cynthia led a high performing team dedicated to elevating the brand of this national education access non-profit. Prior to this, Cynthia advised on communications and policy for the Mayor’s Fund, a division of the Mayor’s Office of New York City. There, she worked across a range of program areas, including immigration and improving community health outcomes for underserved communities. 

Prior to joining the Mayor’s Fund, Cynthia held leadership positions with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, NetAid, a division of Mercy Corps, and the Nike Foundation for Girls. She began her career as a speech-writer at Planned Parenthood of New York City.  

Cynthia was a founding board member of Minds Matter, NYC and former board member of the New York Abortion Access Fund. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh, and a Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University.
